Yelagiri, also well-known as Elagiri, is blowout across 30 sq km. It embraces 14 hamlets situated among four hills. The road to Yelagiri is another best part of a trip to this hill station. The road has 14 hairpin bends which checks your driving skills and the curves offer panoramic, magnificent views of the hills and its backdrops.
The seventh curve is momentous, as it compromises spectacular views of the slants of the mountain and the green forests that flooring the hill.
The main town of Yelagiri Hills is Athanavur, which comprises a winding road through the hills with isolated villages. The Whole of Yelagiri was once the private property of the Yelagiri Zamindar Family. It was taken over by the government of India during the Early 1950s.
The weather at Yelagiri is moderate throughout the year but the best time to visit here is from November to February.A popular trekking destination, the hill station of Yelagiri is also known (somewhat derogatorily) as Poor Man’s Ooty. At 4,626 ft, the hill station located in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu is surrounded by green valleys, orchards and rose gardens.

The best way to reach Yelagiri is by road. The hair pin bends will test your driving skills while at the same time offering the wonderful views of the greens. The nearest airport is the Bangalore Airport about 190 km away. Alternatively, one can take trains to Jolarpettai Junction, the nearest rail station. From Jolarpettai Junction one can either hire a taxi or can take a bus that runs at regular intervals.
